Where it came from
The Kuro (Alternate Art) card, numbered OP15-025, originates from the Adventure on Kami's Island expansion. Released as part of a strategic initiative to deepen the game's lore, this set focused on mythological motifs inspired by regional folklore. The card design represents a departure from standard character portraiture, utilizing a stylized aesthetic that emphasizes atmospheric lighting and intricate, hand-drawn detailing to distinguish it from the base-set release.
The artwork was commissioned to highlight the duality of the character, balancing aggressive combat iconography with the serene, natural elements central to the Kami's Island setting. Upon its introduction, the alternate art iteration was noted by the player community for its technical departure from the more rigid, symmetrical compositions typical of the series. Its reception remains tethered to its status as a sought-after collectible due to the limited print run of this specific aesthetic variant.
