Where it came from
The Mr. 2 Bon Kurei (OP14-091) card originates from the OP-14 expansion set, titled The Azure Sea's Seven, released for the One Piece Card Game. This card represents the character Bentham, a flamboyant and loyal antagonist-turned-ally from the Alabasta arc of the long-running One Piece manga and anime series. Designed to showcase his signature 'Okama Kenpo' martial arts style, the alternate art iteration provides a stylistic, premium take on the character’s theatrical personality, aiming to appeal to collectors who favor character-driven visuals over standard gameplay layout.
The illustration was developed by the creative team behind the Bandai card game, which has gained significant traction for its blend of strategic depth and deep reverence for Eiichiro Oda's source material. The alternate art style of the OP-14 set emphasizes bold linework and vibrant color palettes, capturing Bon Kurei's unique blend of ballet-inspired movement and comedic bravado. Upon release, the set was received favorably by the competitive community and collectors alike, who valued the specific artistic rendering of high-emotion characters within the series.
