Where it came from
Mr. 2 Bon Kurei, also known as Bentham, is a character from the One Piece universe who debuted as an antagonist before becoming an ally. This card, released in the One Piece Card Game set 'The Time of Battle' (OP06), features alternate artwork that emphasizes the character's flamboyant personality and unique Okama Kenpo fighting style. The card design utilizes the game's established visual identity, incorporating high-contrast color palettes and dynamic line work that reflect the intense, theatrical energy associated with Bentham's role in the Alabasta and Impel Down story arcs.
The card was released as part of the broader expansion of the One Piece Card Game, which began in 2022 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the franchise. It follows a tradition of trading card games utilizing rare 'alternate art' variants to incentivize player engagement and collection. Collectors prize this specific iteration for its artistic interpretation of Bentham’s expressive character design, which captures his dual nature as both a formidable combatant and a deeply empathetic friend.
