Where it came from
The Portgas D. Ace character card, designated OP02-013, was released as part of the Japanese version of the One Piece Card Game's second-anniversary celebrations. This promotional set was designed to commemorate the rapid growth and popularity of the game since its launch, serving as a limited-edition keepsake for dedicated players and collectors who participated in specific events or purchased commemorative merchandise during the anniversary window.
The card features dynamic, iconic artwork of Ace, rendered in the distinctive, high-contrast aesthetic that characterizes the broader One Piece trading card line. Illustrators for the series typically emphasize the expressive, bold lines found in Eiichiro Oda’s original manga, aiming to capture the character's fierce personality and elemental abilities. Upon release, the card was well-received by the competitive community for its thematic relevance and its status as a sought-after aesthetic variant of an essential game character.
