Where it came from
The Sabo Leader card (OP05-001) was released in 2023 as part of the Awakening of the New Era set for the One Piece Card Game. This set was designed to mark the third anniversary of the game's Japanese launch and drew heavy inspiration from the Dressrosa arc of the One Piece manga and anime series. As a leader card, it serves as the centerpiece for deck construction, featuring the revolutionary army chief of staff in his iconic post-time skip appearance, reflecting his role as a tactical powerhouse in the game's meta.
The alternate art version of this card features unique, high-quality illustrations that move away from standard game formatting to highlight the dramatic flair of the series. The aesthetic design aims to capture the intensity of the character’s flame-based abilities, utilizing vibrant colors and dynamic compositions that were highly sought after by players and collectors alike. Upon release, the card received praise for both its strategic viability in the Red color archetype and its artistic presentation, becoming a defining piece of the fifth expansion set.
