Where it came from
The Sabo card (OP05-007) was released in 2023 as part of the Awakening of the New Era set, the fifth main expansion for the One Piece Card Game. This set was designed to celebrate the milestone fifth booster release by focusing on key narrative arcs, specifically the Dressrosa and Egghead arcs. The alternate art version of this card features a unique illustration that diverges from the standard game design, intended to appeal to both competitive players and collectors of the popular manga and anime series.
The card highlights Sabo, the chief of staff of the Revolutionary Army, depicted with his iconic fire-based abilities. The art direction emphasizes the character's signature flame effects and powerful stance, aligning with the visual aesthetic established by Bandai for the high-rarity chase cards in the set. Upon its debut, the card was well-received within the trading card community, largely due to its utility in competitive red decks and the enduring popularity of the character among fans of Eiichiro Oda's work.
