Where it came from
The Sakazuki alternate art card, designated OP05-065, was released as part of the fifth expansion for the One Piece Card Game, titled 'Awakening of the New Era,' which debuted in late 2023. As a high-rarity Parallel version, it features the character Sakazuki—better known as Admiral Akainu—in a dramatic, stylized illustration that emphasizes his imposing presence and his magma-based abilities. This card design was created to appeal to collectors seeking premium versions of the game's most powerful antagonists, reflecting the character's pivotal role in the Marineford arc of the series.
The reception of this card was significantly bolstered by Sakazuki's dominance in the game's competitive meta during the period of its release. His ability to manipulate the cost of opposing characters made him a cornerstone of top-tier decks, driving high demand for his rarest versions. The artwork captures the intense, ruthless aesthetic associated with his 'Absolute Justice' philosophy, cementing the card as both a functional centerpiece for serious players and a sought-after aesthetic trophy for series enthusiasts.
