Where it came from
The Sakazuki (OP02-099) card was produced as a premier promotional item for the One Piece Card Game, specifically designated for the 2023 Championship series. These cards were awarded to participants and high-ranking players at official competitive events, serving as a rare, tournament-stamped iteration of the character originally introduced in the Paramount War expansion set. The release context reflects Bandai’s strategy to incentivize competitive play by distributing high-rarity, alternative-art versions of iconic characters to top-performing players.
The design features Sakazuki, the Fleet Admiral of the Marines, rendered with the intense, authoritative aesthetic signature to the One Piece Card Game’s art direction. By utilizing high-quality card stock and unique foiling techniques associated with championship-level prizes, the design aims to convey the character's ruthless sense of absolute justice. It was received with significant enthusiasm within the trading card game community, largely due to both the card's competitive viability in the game's meta and its status as a sought-after collectible for dedicated fans of the series.
