Where it came from
The Shanks card (OP01-120) from the 2023 Championship promotional set is a cornerstone of the One Piece Card Game's organized play ecosystem. It was distributed specifically as a high-value prize for participants in official 2023 regional championship events. The design draws directly from the series' intense artistic aesthetic, featuring a dynamic illustration of the character that emphasizes his status as one of the Four Emperors, rendered with a distinctive textured foil finish that distinguishes it from standard set releases.
The issuance of this card was part of a broader strategy by Bandai to incentivize competitive play and reward tournament attendance during the game's initial growth phase. Because it was tied to exclusive event participation, it quickly became a sought-after collectible, representing both a mechanical tool for players and a commemorative artifact of the game's early competitive history. Its design reflects the minimalist yet bold layout characteristic of the series' early promotional material, designed to stand out in both casual and professional collections.
