Provenance

Where it came from

The Thunder Bagua card was released in the debut set of the One Piece Card Game, Romance Dawn, which launched in late 2022. As an event card belonging to the Purple color identity, it draws direct inspiration from the Wano Country Arc of the manga and anime, specifically depicting the signature technique used by the villain Kaido. The card was designed to reflect the overwhelming power and speed of its wielder, serving as a high-impact defensive tool that allows players to exert pressure even when it is not their turn.

The visual design of the card utilizes iconic paneling from Eiichiro Oda’s source material, emphasizing the kinetic energy of Kaido’s club, Hassaikai, wrapped in lightning. Upon its release, the card was widely received as a staple in competitive decks, particularly those focusing on the Animal Kingdom Pirates theme. It is frequently highlighted by players for its efficiency in changing the tempo of a match, cementing its status as one of the most recognizable and functional cards within the early meta of the game.
