Provenance

Where it came from

Ampharos 057/189 was released in the Darkness Ablaze expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game in 2020. This set was designed to feature powerful Pokémon V and VMAX cards, emphasizing the Dynamax mechanic introduced in the Sword and Shield video games. As a standard rare card rather than a full-art or ultra-rare variant, it serves as a functional piece for players building decks around Electric-type synergies.

The card features artwork by Midori Harada, a long-time illustrator for the franchise known for a soft, painterly aesthetic that brings a sense of calm to the Electric-type Pokémon. The design captures Ampharos in a serene pose, consistent with the artist's focus on character personality over dynamic action. Upon release, it was well-received by collectors who appreciate traditional card illustrations that contrast with the more common, high-gloss holographic styles of the era.
