Where it came from
The Big Parasol card was released in 2020 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion titled Darkness Ablaze. This set served as the third main expansion of the Sword & Shield Series, drawing its name and card pool primarily from the Japanese subsets Infinity Zone and Explosive Walker. Within the competitive landscape of the game, this item card was designed to offer defensive utility by protecting the equipped Pokémon from the effects of attacks used by the opponent's Pokémon.
The artwork for this particular card was produced by studio iog, a collective frequently commissioned by The Pokémon Company for item and trainer card illustrations. The design depicts a stylized, oversized umbrella intended to visually communicate the concept of a 'shield' against incoming negative effects. Upon its release, it became a staple in various deck archetypes as a tactical counter to disruptive strategies that relied on status conditions or specialized ability triggers.
