Tsareena

Tsareena (016/189) was released in the 2020 expansion Darkness Ablaze, a set that bridged the gap between the initial Sword & Shield base set and the more specialized expansions that followed. As a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in the Alola region, this card reflects the design philosophy of the era, which often prioritized vibrant, action-oriented digital illustrations to highlight the Pokémon's personality. The card art was rendered by artist Tomokazu Komiya, whose signature expressionist style—characterized by textured, almost painterly brushwork and unconventional color palettes—distinguishes it from the more standard, clean-lined 3D models common in the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

The Darkness Ablaze set is widely noted by collectors for its focus on Generation VIII Pokémon alongside various Gen VII favorites like Tsareena. While the card is a standard rare rather than a high-value chase card, it serves as a representative example of the TCG's ongoing efforts to pair specific artists with Pokémon that complement their unique stylistic fingerprints. Upon its release, it was received as a solid addition for players interested in Grass-type deck synergy, while collectors of Komiya’s work sought it out specifically for the artist's distinctively raw aesthetic.
