Where it came from
The Elekid card from the EX Sandstorm expansion was released in 2003 as part of the transition of the Pokémon Trading Card Game into the EX era, which was managed by The Pokémon Company and Wizards of the Coast during their final collaborative phase. This set was notable for introducing the concept of Pokémon-ex and updated mechanics that shifted the game's focus toward higher health totals and more strategic energy management, reflecting the evolving landscape of the competitive meta at the time.
The card features an illustration by Midori Harada, a prolific artist in the Pokémon franchise known for her vibrant and character-focused style. Harada's depiction of Elekid captures the creature's energetic nature, a hallmark of the Electric type, while adhering to the clean, modern aesthetic favored during the early 2000s. While Elekid itself served as an uncommon utility card, its design remains a well-regarded example of the artistic consistency maintained throughout the Sandstorm collection.
