What it does
As long as Volbeat is in play, any damage done to Illumise by attacks from Fighting Pokémon and Darkness Pokémon is reduced by 30. You can't reduce more than 30 damage even if there is more than 1 Volbeat in play.
Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Confused. If tails, the Defending Pokémon is now Asleep.
If the Defending Pokémon is affected by a Special Condition, this attack does 20 damage plus 20 more damage.

Where it came from
The Illumise card, numbered 38/100, was released as part of the EX Sandstorm expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game in 2003. This set marked the second expansion in the EX Series and served as the first to focus on the Hoenn region, introducing players to the third generation of Pokémon species. The artwork for this card was provided by illustrator Mitsuhiro Arita, a veteran artist of the franchise known for his clean, expressive style that often emphasizes the creature's personality within its natural habitat.
Designed to feature the Firefly Pokémon in a typical grass-type mechanical framework, the card highlights the cooperative relationship Illumise shares with Volbeat in the lore of the games. By 2003, the transition to the EX series signaled a shift in the game's competitive landscape, incorporating Pokémon-ex mechanics. While this specific card was an uncommon entry, it remains a notable example of early third-generation card design, capturing the distinct aesthetic shift that defined the post-Wizard of the Coast era of the game.
