Where it came from
The Escape Rope card was introduced to the Pokémon Trading Card Game as part of the Plasma Storm expansion, released in early 2013. This set focused heavily on the narrative of Team Plasma, incorporating their aesthetic and specific mechanics into the gameplay. The Escape Rope functions as a tactical Item card, allowing both players to switch their active Pokémon with one from their bench, a utility that became a staple for strategic maneuvering and disrupting an opponent's rhythm.
The design of the card captures the practical utility of the item as it appears in the mainline video games, where it is used to exit dungeons. The artwork is clean and functional, consistent with the graphical standards of the Black & White era. As an uncommon card, it was widely accessible to players of the time, earning a reputation as a reliable piece of deck architecture for those looking to pivot their strategy during a match.
