Where it came from
The Foongus card, numbered 12/135, was released as part of the Plasma Storm expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in early 2013. This set was notable for introducing the Team Plasma aesthetic to the game, characterized by a distinct blue-and-silver border design on special cards, though this particular Foongus serves as a standard grass-type common card representing the broader Unova region Pokémon lineup.
The artwork for this card was created by Mizue, a long-time illustrator for the franchise known for a soft, approachable style. The design emphasizes the mushroom-like Pokémon's mimicry in its natural environment, fitting the aesthetic goals of the Black & White era sets, which sought to blend creature biology with vibrant, saturated backgrounds. As a common card, it was produced to be easily accessible to players and collectors, filling out the set's functional roster.
