Where it came from
Eternatus VMAX (SWSH045) was released in 2020 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Sword & Shield Black Star Promos set. This card was specifically included in the Eternatus VMAX Premium Collection, a boxed product designed to highlight the legendary Pokémon Eternatus, which serves as the primary antagonist of the Galar region featured in the Pokémon Sword and Shield video games.
The card features artwork by illustrator PLANETA Mochizuki, who is known for high-energy, digital renderings of modern Pokémon. The design captures the gargantuan, skeletal aesthetic of the Eternatus VMAX form, emphasizing its role as a central boss encounter in the game’s narrative. Upon release, the card was widely sought after by competitive players for its 'Eternal Zone' Ability, which significantly expanded the bench space for Darkness-type decks.
