Where it came from
The Foongus card numbered 17/124 was released as part of the Dragons Exalted expansion, which launched in the English Pokémon Trading Card Game market in August 2012. This set was notable for bringing elements from the Japanese BW-era expansions, specifically the Dragon Selection and Dragon Blade/Dragon Blast sets, to the international stage. As a common card, it was designed to populate the lower tiers of the set, serving as a functional piece for players building decks around the Grass-type mechanics of the Unova region.
The illustration for this particular card was produced by artist Midori Harada, a long-time contributor to the Pokémon franchise known for her clean, distinct style. Harada’s depiction of Foongus captures the creature’s unique design—which mimics the appearance of a Poké Ball—nestled in a natural, grassy environment. The design was received as a straightforward, faithful representation of the species, intended to provide collectors with a recognizable addition to the Dragons Exalted catalog.
