Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Plasma Storm expansion, this Infernape card represents the height of the Black & White series era. The set introduced the Team Plasma thematic cycle, characterized by distinct card designs featuring metallic blue borders and the prominent Team Plasma logo. Infernape 17/135 serves as a core representative of this design language, blending standard competitive mechanics with the stylized aesthetic associated with the villains of the Unova region.
The artwork for this card was provided by Kagemaru Himeno, a long-standing illustrator for the Pokémon TCG who has contributed to the series since the early Base Set era. Himeno opted for an action-oriented depiction of Infernape, utilizing the holo-rare treatment to accentuate the fire-based attacks synonymous with the character. Upon release, the card was received as a standard play-tier rare, valued by collectors for its iconic 'Team Plasma' aesthetic and Himeno's characteristically vibrant rendering of the Flame Pokémon.
