Where it came from
Infernape 59/131 was released in May 2018 as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion titled Forbidden Light. This set was based on the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon video games, focusing heavily on the mysterious Ultra Beasts and the legendary Pokémon Necrozma. The card features artwork by Naoki Saito, a prominent illustrator known for his dynamic, expressive character depictions that emphasize the subject's personality through bold posture and vibrant color palettes.
This specific iteration of Infernape utilizes the Fighting type, a thematic shift from its standard Fire-type classification, representing a mechanical adaptation found in the set to reflect specific gameplay mechanics or regional variants. As a Rare Holo card, it was designed to appeal to collectors seeking premium foil finishes on starter-evolution Pokémon. Upon release, the card was received as a standard aesthetic addition to the Forbidden Light set, appreciated by players for its ability to integrate into specific Fighting-type deck strategies common during that era of the TCG.
