Provenance

Where it came from

The Jirachi ex card from the 30th Celebration special set marks a milestone in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, designed to commemorate three decades of franchise history. This card reimagines the legendary Mythical Pokémon Jirachi, utilizing the 'ex' mechanic that emphasizes high-HP, powerful playstyles while leaning into the visual storytelling of modern illustration techniques. The artistic direction for this series focuses on ethereal, dreamlike qualities that reflect the Pokémon's lore as a being capable of granting wishes.

The illustration was crafted by a lead artist within the Pokémon collaborative studios, aiming to blend classic TCG aesthetics with the contemporary 'Special Illustration Rare' format. This card quickly became a focal point for collectors, valued not only for its competitive utility as a Steel-type specialist but for its sophisticated, high-gloss texture and unique foil pattern. Its reception was marked by an appreciation for how it honors the legacy of Jirachi’s initial introduction in the third generation of games while updating its presentation for a new generation of players.
