Provenance

Where it came from

Released in January 2003 as part of the Aquapolis expansion, this card represents the final major release of the e-Card Series. Developed during a transitional period for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the set was designed to integrate with the Nintendo GameCube's e-Reader peripheral, which allowed players to scan dot-codes on the card to unlock minigames and Pokédex data. This technical focus gave the cards a distinct, utility-driven aesthetic that remains a point of interest for collectors today.

The artwork for this Jumpluff was created by Ken Sugimori, one of the most prolific and defining illustrators in the franchise's history. Sugimori’s design captured the character's whimsical, dandelion-like nature while adhering to the clean, functional composition required by the e-Reader layout. At the time of its release, the card was well-received by players for its synergy within the set's mechanics, and it remains a representative piece of the experimental era that bridged the gap between early generation card games and modern digital connectivity.
