Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2000 as part of the Neo Genesis expansion, the Jumpluff card marked the transition of the Pokémon Trading Card Game into the second generation of video games, Pokémon Gold and Silver. This set was the first to introduce the Johto region's Pokémon to Western players, reflecting the game's shift toward more complex mechanics and new elemental types. As a grass-type Pokémon, the design draws on its dual evolution line, starting from Hoppip and Skiploom, capturing the whimsical aesthetic of the series' shift into the late nineties.

The artwork for this card was created by Kagemaru Himeno, one of the most prolific and recognized illustrators in the Pokémon franchise. Himeno aimed to convey the airy, lightweight nature of the grass-type creature, utilizing the holo-rare treatment of the Neo Genesis set to highlight the card's dynamic presence in a competitive format. Upon its release, it was well-received by players for its tactical utility and remains a notable example of early-generation holographic card design.
