Where it came from
The Lapras card was released as part of the Fossil expansion, the third main set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in Japan in 1996 and internationally in 1999. Following the success of the Base Set and Jungle, the Fossil set was designed to introduce the remaining Generation I Pokémon that had not yet appeared in card form. This particular card was intended to capture the gentle, seafaring nature of Lapras, a Pokémon iconic for its role in transporting trainers across the bodies of water in the Kanto region.
