Provenance

Where it came from

The Paras card, numbered 72/112, was released in the FireRed & LeafGreen expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in late 2004. This set served as a bridge between the classic mechanics and the revamped aesthetics of the Game Boy Advance remakes, focusing on the original 151 Pokémon. As a common card, it was designed to be accessible to players building decks, reflecting the creature's status as a foundational member of the Kanto region ecosystem.

The illustration for this card was provided by Kagemaru Himeno, a long-standing artist in the Pokémon TCG franchise known for a soft, watercolor-adjacent style. In this depiction, Paras is shown in its natural forest habitat, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between the crustacean and the parasitic mushrooms growing on its back. The design prioritizes clarity and character recognition, aligning with the series' goal of bringing the video game experience to a tactile, collectible tabletop format.
