Where it came from
The Pikachu card from the Celebrations set was released in 2021 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. This specific card is a direct reprint of the original base set Pikachu, utilizing the iconic art style by Mitsuhiro Arita that defined the series in the late 1990s. Its production served as a nostalgic nod to the initial expansion of the trading card game, inviting long-term fans to reconnect with the imagery that launched the global phenomenon.
The design faithfully recreates the classic layout, featuring the character's early, rounder aesthetic and the original yellow-cheeked depiction. As part of the 'Classic Collection' subset, it was intended to mirror the tactile experience of opening vintage packs. Collectors received the release warmly, particularly valuing the inclusion of the '25th' anniversary stamp, which distinguishes these reprints from their original counterparts while preserving the vintage charm that has made the base set card a hallmark of gaming history.
