Where it came from
Poipole was introduced as part of the Forbidden Light expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which was released in early 2018. This set focused heavily on the Ultra Beasts, mysterious creatures originating from Ultra Space, and served as a thematic continuation of the Sun and Moon era. The card was designed to highlight Poipole's status as the first Ultra Beast capable of evolution, bridging the gap between standard game mechanics and the alien nature of these creatures.
The artwork for this specific card, numbered 55/131, was created by illustrator Hitoshi Ariga. Ariga, a veteran artist known for his work on both the Pokémon TCG and the Mega Man series, aimed to capture the creature's inquisitive and somewhat mischievous disposition. The design emphasizes Poipole’s distinct violet coloration and needle-like head, reflecting its psychic typing within the game's meta at the time of the set's release.
