Where it came from
The Polteageist V card (SWSH021) was released in 2020 as part of the Sword & Shield Black Star Promos set. It was designed to accompany the launch of the Shining Fates expansion, specifically serving as the face of the Polteageist V Box. The card features artwork by 5ban Graphics, a prolific studio known for their consistent 3D-modeled aesthetic that characterizes much of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's V and VMAX era.
This iteration of Polteageist was created to capture the whimsical yet eerie nature of the Galar region's teapot Pokémon. By showcasing the character in a dynamic V-series pose, the illustration emphasizes the ghostly essence radiating from its ceramic form. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players and collectors alike, valued both for its inclusion in competitive Psychic-type decks and for the distinct aesthetic it brought to the early Sword & Shield promo catalog.
