Provenance

Where it came from

Released in May 2003 as part of the Skyridge expansion, this Raichu card represents the final set produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Skyridge was the last installment of the e-Card Series, which featured dot-code strips on the side of the cards that could be scanned using the Nintendo e-Reader peripheral to unlock various mini-games and Pokédex entries.

The card features artwork by Kagemaru Himeno, a prominent illustrator in the early days of the TCG. Her style for this Raichu leans into a dynamic, illustrative approach that defined the later e-Card era, characterized by vibrant colors and a focus on the character's movement. Because the Skyridge expansion had a limited print run compared to earlier sets, cards from this era are held in high regard by collectors for their historical significance and the technical complexity of the e-Reader integration.
