Where it came from
Released in 2003 as part of the Skyridge expansion, this card represents one of the final sets produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Pokémon Trading Card Game before the license transitioned to Nintendo. As a core component of the e-Card Series, the design incorporates a distinct dot-code strip along the left side, which was intended to be scanned by the Nintendo e-Reader peripheral to unlock supplementary game content or digital features.
The artwork for this particular card was rendered by Kouki Saitou, an illustrator known for his dynamic and expressive depictions of Pokémon during the early 2000s. The design emphasizes Raikou's elemental nature, utilizing the vibrant, high-contrast aesthetic characteristic of the Skyridge set. At the time of its release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its utility in gameplay, and it remains a sought-after piece for collectors due to the limited print run and the historical significance of the Skyridge set as the conclusion of the Wizards of the Coast era.
