Where it came from
Released in early 2007 as part of the Power Keepers expansion, this card represents the conclusion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's EX era, which began in 2003 with the Ruby & Sapphire set. The expansion was designed to celebrate the history of the Advanced Generation series, featuring recurring powerful Pokémon that had previously appeared in earlier sets, now presented with updated, aggressive mechanics to maintain relevance in the competitive landscape of the time.
The artwork was illustrated by Ryo Ueda, a long-time contributor to the Pokémon TCG known for his dynamic and stylized depictions of dragon-type Pokémon. For the Salamence ex card, Ueda focused on a sharp, metallic aesthetic that complemented the colorless typing assigned to the card in this set. While the EX cards of this period were initially celebrated for their high power levels and intricate foil patterns, this specific card is remembered by collectors as a quintessential example of the shift toward the more powerful, game-defining card designs that characterized the end of the EX series.
