Provenance

Where it came from

The Scolipede card, numbered 40/98, was released in the 2011 Emerging Powers expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was notable as the first in the Black & White series to be released in the West, designed to introduce players to the Unova region's roster of Generation V creatures following the debut of the main series video games on the Nintendo DS.

The illustration is credited to artist Midori Harada, who rendered the Gigapede Pokémon in a dynamic, aggressive pose characteristic of her work on the series. As a Rare-tier Psychic-type card, it served as a mid-cycle attacker intended for casual play rather than top-tier competitive tournament decks, representing the shift toward the new generation of game mechanics introduced in the early 2010s.
