Where it came from
The Skiploom card, numbered 49/109, was released in the Team Rocket Returns expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in North America in late 2004. This set marked a return to the villainous themes established in the original 2000 Team Rocket set, specifically focusing on the 'Dark' Pokémon variants and the nefarious agenda of the organization. As a Grass-type uncommon card, it serves as an evolution of Hoppip and a predecessor to Jumpluff, fitting into the set's broader mechanical exploration of evolution chains during the EX series era.
The illustration is credited to artist Midori Harada, who has been a prolific contributor to the Pokémon TCG since the early years of the franchise. Her design for this card utilizes a soft, painterly aesthetic that captures the whimsical, floating nature of the Grass-type Pokémon. Within the context of the Team Rocket Returns set, the artwork maintains the standard TCG artistic direction of the time, which favored expressive character poses and distinct, often vibrant background color palettes to differentiate the Pokémon's elemental types.
