Provenance

Where it came from

Slugma 99/144 was released as part of the Skyridge expansion, the final set produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Pokémon Trading Card Game before the license returned to Nintendo. Released in North America in 2003, Skyridge is celebrated for its inclusion of the Crystal Pokémon mechanic and its aesthetic connection to the e-Reader peripheral, which allowed players to scan cards to unlock digital content on the Game Boy Advance.

The card features artwork by Japanese illustrator Yuka Morii. Known for her unique style of using clay models to create figures that are then photographed for card art, Morii provided a tactile, three-dimensional quality to the Pokémon that stood out against the standard digital illustrations of the era. This card belongs to a generation of TCG history where production values were high, contributing to the set's enduring reputation among collectors.
