Provenance

Where it came from

The Special Delivery Pikachu card was released in late 2020 as a promotional tie-in between The Pokémon Company International and the Pokémon Center online store. It was distributed as a gift with qualifying purchases, designed to celebrate the launch and expansion of the official Pokémon Center e-commerce platform in North America and the United Kingdom. Its arrival coincided with a period of unprecedented interest in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, turning the card into an immediate focal point for collectors.

The artwork was created by Yuu Nishida, who depicted Pikachu wearing a mail carrier hat and satchel, interacting with a stack of letters. The design captures a whimsical, professional aesthetic that bridges the gap between the character's traditional adventurous spirit and the logistics of the online store’s delivery service. Upon release, the card was widely received as a high-quality collectible, noted for its unique thematic illustration and its status as a limited-distribution promotional piece.
