Where it came from
Steven's Advice was released in 2007 as part of the Power Keepers expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which served as the final set of the EX Series era. The card features Steven Stone, a prominent character first introduced in the Hoenn region games, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Mechanically, the card allows players to draw cards based on how many cards are already in their hand, reflecting the tactical nature often associated with Steven in his role as the Hoenn region's Champion.
The artwork was illustrated by Ken Sugimori, the primary character designer for the Pokémon franchise. His design approach for this card emphasizes a minimalist, professional aesthetic, portraying Steven in a thoughtful, composed posture that aligns with his canonical personality as a calm and calculating strategist. Within the competitive landscape of the era, the card was widely recognized for its utility in card draw consistency, becoming a staple in many decks of the time due to its reliable ability to refresh a player's hand.
