What it does
Play Mysterious Fossil as if it were a Basic Pokémon. While in play, Mysterious Fossil counts as a Colorless Pokémon (as well as a Trainer card). Mysterious Fossil has no attacks of its own, can't retreat, and can't be affected by any Special Conditions. If Mysterious Fossil is Knocked Out, it doesn't count as a Knocked Out Pokémon. (Discard it anyway.) At any time during your turn before your attack, you may discard Mysterious Fossil from play.

Where it came from
The Mysterious Fossil card was introduced as part of the Power Keepers expansion, released in early 2007 as the final set of the EX series. Within the mechanics of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, this card serves as a trainer item that functions as a Basic Pokémon, allowing players to bridge the gap between prehistoric fossil items and their evolved forms. Its inclusion in this specific set reflects the era's focus on the Delta Species and the return of popular mechanics that defined the mid-2000s competitive landscape.
The card features an understated design consistent with the utility-focused aesthetic of the EX era trainers. While many cards in the Power Keepers set were celebrated for their vibrant holographic treatments or unique artistic directions, the Mysterious Fossil remains a functional staple designed to maintain internal gameplay balance. It was widely utilized by players during the 2007 tournament season, valued more for its strategic necessity in deck construction than for its visual flair or collector prestige.
