Superior Energy Retrieval

Superior Energy Retrieval was released in the 2023 Scarlet & Violet—Paldea Evolved expansion, serving as a tactical reprint of a classic utility card from the HeartGold & SoulSilver era. This specific iteration is categorized as a Hyper Rare secret-rare, featuring a distinct gold-etched aesthetic that differentiates it from the standard uncommon version. The card is designed to bolster late-game play, allowing players to recover essential energy resources from the discard pile at the cost of discarding two cards from their hand, a mechanism that rewards strategic resource management in the competitive Pokémon Trading Card Game.

The visual design of this Hyper Rare version utilizes a minimalist gold-foil texture typical of the Scarlet & Violet series' top-tier rarities. While the technical illustration of the item remains consistent with its functional role, the special gold treatment is intended for collectors seeking high-end variants of core gameplay staples. Upon its release in Paldea Evolved, the card was well-received by the competitive community for its utility in energy-intensive decks, though its primary draw for collectors remains the aesthetic prestige associated with its gold-etched finish.
