Where it came from
The Tornadus BW42 promo card was released as part of the Black Star Promos series during the Pokémon Trading Card Game's Black & White era. It was distributed in 2012 as an inclusion in the Tornadus Collection box, a retail set designed to highlight the Legendary Pokémon introduced in the Unova region. This release followed the successful launch of the Black & White base sets, aiming to provide players and collectors with an accessible way to obtain the specific Mythical and Legendary creatures featured in the latest video games.
The card features artwork by 5ban Graphics, a creative collective frequently commissioned by The Pokémon Company to produce sleek, digitally rendered illustrations for the trading card game. Their approach emphasizes a clean, modern aesthetic that reflects the high-tech, aerodynamic design of the Tornadus character. As a promotional card, it was received primarily as a collectible tie-in for fans of the Unova region, offering a distinct alternative version of the character that differed from the standard set cards found in randomized booster packs.
