Where it came from
Thundurus BW41 was released in 2012 as part of the Black Star Promos set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It was distributed specifically to celebrate the release of the 'Pokémon Black and White: Destiny Battles' stage of the franchise's organized play events. This card served as a promotional bridge for players to acquire legendary Pokémon from the Unova region, which were central to the narrative of the fifth-generation games.
The card features artwork by 5ban Graphics, a design studio frequently commissioned by The Pokémon Company for modern card illustrations. Their approach on this promo emphasizes a dynamic, high-contrast pose designed to highlight the legendary creature's electric typing and aggressive aesthetic. The card was well-received by competitive players at the time for its utility in specific deck builds, establishing a modest legacy within the Black and White era of the game.
