Provenance

Where it came from

The Tornadus-EX card, cataloged as BW96, was released in 2014 as part of the Black Star Promos series for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It was specifically produced for distribution within the Tornadus-EX Box, a retail product that bundled booster packs with this promotional card and an oversized version for display. The card was designed to highlight the Legendary Pokémon Tornadus in its Incarnate Forme, a creature introduced in the fifth generation of the franchise.

The artwork features the dynamic, high-energy illustrative style characteristic of the Black & White era of the card game. Created by artist Eske Yoshinob, the design emphasizes the swirling, storm-like nature of the Pokémon using bold lines and metallic foil treatments consistent with the 'EX' card mechanic of that period. Like many promotional cards from this time, it was designed to appeal to both players looking for competitive colorless-type attackers and collectors interested in exclusive set variants.
