Provenance

Where it came from

The Zapdos card designated as SM145 was released in 2018 as part of the Sun & Moon Black Star Promos set. This card was distributed specifically as a foil promotional inclusion within the Lightning Zapdos Pin Collection, a retail product designed to showcase one of the legendary Kanto region birds alongside a collectible pin and several booster packs.

The artwork for this iteration of Zapdos was rendered by the illustrator Kouki Saitou, who has contributed extensively to the Pokémon Trading Card Game since the early 2000s. Saitou’s approach for this piece emphasizes the creature's electrical power, utilizing a dynamic, high-energy pose consistent with his established style for Lightning-type legendary Pokémon, which resonated well with collectors who prioritize character-focused promotional releases.
