Bagatellen Für B. / Bagatellen / Beethoven-Variationen

Released in 1975 on the Da Camera Magna label, this recording serves as a bridge between the classical canon and twentieth-century avant-garde interpretation. The disc features Ludwig van Beethoven’s Bagatellen, reimagined through the lens of Max Reger’s complex arrangements and further juxtaposed with the contemporary works of East German composer Reiner Bredemeyer. It emerged during a period when the label sought to explore the structural evolution of the German bagatelle form, providing a scholarly approach to how modern sensibilities digest nineteenth-century traditions.

The album's design reflects the austere and minimalist aesthetic prevalent in European classical record production of the mid-1970s, prioritizing archival clarity and historical context over decorative flair. The project was conceived as an analytical listening experience, designed for students and enthusiasts of musicology who wished to trace the lineage of piano miniaturism. Upon its release, it was received as a niche but significant contribution to the Da Camera catalog, noted for its precise selection of repertoire that highlighted the intellectual rigor of the bagatelle genre.
