Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 1991 by the Brazilian label Acit, Baile Do Quero-Quero represents a significant entry in the discography of Grupo Quero-Quero, a group deeply rooted in the musical traditions of Southern Brazil. The album emerged during a period when regional folk styles, particularly those from Rio Grande do Sul, were experiencing a steady solidification of their identity within the broader Brazilian music market, often categorized under the gaucho music genre.

The album serves as a quintessential example of the dance-oriented folk music intended for social gatherings and traditional bailes. Designed to showcase the rhythmic accordion-driven instrumentation characteristic of the region, the production focuses on accessibility and communal celebration. As a representative of the Acit label's commitment to regional artists, the record was received primarily by local audiences and collectors of Southern Brazilian folk, remaining a staple of the regional genre's mid-nineties output.
