Where it came from
Barber Shop Favourites, released under the Bravo! Records label as catalog number K146, emerged during the mid-twentieth-century resurgence of barbershop quartet singing in the United States. Produced by the low-cost record labels that aimed to make popular entertainment accessible to the general public, this recording captured the harmonized vocal styles that defined a sentimentalized view of turn-of-the-century American life.
The album features performances by The Parker Brothers, a group typical of the era's regional vocal ensembles. Their work on this project reflects the standardized arrangement styles favored by the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, focusing on tight vocal harmonies and nostalgic themes that were intended to appeal to listeners seeking traditional, clean-cut musical entertainment.
