Where it came from
Released in 1960 on the Philips label, this extended play record represents a quintessential example of the French yé-yé era's fascination with adapting international pop hits for local audiences. During this period, record labels frequently commissioned groups like Les Alcarson to provide upbeat, radio-friendly covers of songs climbing the global charts, ensuring that French listeners could enjoy contemporary dance music performed in their own language.
The disc features a collection of lighthearted tracks including 'Itsi Bitsi, Petit Bikini,' a French adaptation of Brian Hyland's 'Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini,' and 'Banjo Boy,' which reflects the era's light-pop aesthetic. The production focused on catchy melodies and accessible arrangements, characteristic of Philips' strategy to capture the burgeoning youth market through high-frequency output of these smaller, affordable EP formats.
