Where it came from
This record is a 2013 vinyl reissue of the debut studio album by Olli Schulz & Der Hund Marie, originally released in 2003. It holds a significant place in the history of the Grand Hotel van Cleef label, serving as an early milestone for the independent imprint founded by members of the band Kettcar. The album captures a pivotal moment in the German indie-pop scene, blending Schulz's idiosyncratic, humorous songwriting with the folk-inflected musical arrangements of Der Hund Marie.
The album's design and title reflect Schulz's characteristic approach, which often contrasts sentimental themes with deadpan or irreverent sensibilities. While the music received acclaim for its wit and distinct vocal delivery, the reissue on vinyl was intended to satisfy the growing collector interest in early 2000s German indie music. The physical pressing is valued by fans for its role in establishing the songwriter's career, signaling his transition from a cult performer to a prominent figure in German pop culture.
