Where it came from
Released in 1988, this recording documents the original cast production of the musical Carmen, Carmen. Produced by O.M. Teatro S.A., the work was a significant theatrical undertaking in Spain during the late 1980s, designed to bridge traditional Spanish cultural narratives with the contemporary musical theater format popular in Europe and North America at the time.
The production featured prominent Spanish screen and stage talent, most notably Conchita Velasco, who headlined the project. The score and orchestration were crafted to highlight the dramatic range of the ensemble, reflecting a period of creative ambition in Madrid's theater scene where producers sought to revitalize classic themes through large-scale, music-driven stagings.
