Carmen-Suiten - L´Arlésienne-Suiten

Released under the Deutsche Grammophon label, this recording features the Residentie Orkest under the baton of Dutch conductor Willem van Otterloo. The suites consist of incidental music composed by Georges Bizet for the play L'Arlésienne and the iconic opera Carmen, which remain among the most celebrated works in the orchestral repertoire for their evocative melodic structures and vibrant orchestrations.

Willem van Otterloo was a central figure in 20th-century Dutch music, serving as the chief conductor of the Residentie Orkest for nearly 25 years. His interpretations, characterized by a refined sense of discipline and structural clarity, were captured during a period when Deutsche Grammophon was solidifying its reputation for high-fidelity classical recordings. This particular release was part of a mid-century effort to make standard orchestral suites accessible to a broader audience through high-quality vinyl pressing and consistent aesthetic packaging.
